1994-1997       BAC BV (Unilever) Project Manager / Assurance Manager

·        Led simultaneous accreditation to ISO 9001 and ISO14001 for an integrated responsible care system.

·        International transfer of know-how and technology for the above to Unilever sites.

·        Implemented design, FMEA, HACCP, validation and commissioning of BAC plant and facility. This lights-out plant is still a showpiece of advanced biotechnological design ten years later.

1989-1994       Quest International (Unilever): Group Fermentation Manager

·        Key responsibilities in biotechnology-related budgets up to US $ 34,000,000.00 per annum.

·        Obtained US $ 2,300,000.00 grant and US $ 750,000.00 cost reduction of proposed factory design,

·        Improvements in process cost (up to 30%) and yield (up to 20-fold) in Cork factory.

·        Led many new formulations and processes based on products of fermentations, using both non-recombinant and recombinant strains of bacteria, fungi and yeast.

1985-1988     Biocon Biochemicals Ltd.: Group Fermentation Manager

·        Responsible to Chairman for the management of internal and external research and design partnerships.

·        Developed a complete facility and organisation for submerged fermentation manufacturing.

·        Established rDNA enzyme-production in 1991.

·        Implemented design and development of Cork (submerged) and Bangalore India (solid state) fermentation facilities.

1977-1985       Glaxo Operations UK Ltd.: Pilot Plant Manager/Penicillin Section Head

·        Management of new computerised pilot plant serving antibiotic and enzyme process development.

·        Process development and production support of the penicillin V&G process at two sites.

·        Revolutionised penicillin V process with a 20% gain in yield.

·        Represented Glaxo on Alvey Commission Real-time Expert System Process Control Committee.
